The National Plan to Combat Pollution of the marine environment by oil and other harmful substances in case of emergency
Introduction
The general policy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the field of exploration for oil and its production, use and transfer of oil and other harmful substances requires the reduction of environmental damage, health and economic impact of this and restrict it to a minimum and to take immediate action in the event of any incident of pollution to reduce the risks that may be exposed to the environment and health the citizen and the well-being. Has been the adoption of the National Plan to Combat Pollution of the marine environment by oil and other harmful substances in emergency situations under the Council of Ministers Decision No. (157) dated 20/11/1411 AH
Thus been assigned to the General Presidency of Meteorology and Environment Protection as the central authority responsible for protecting the environment in the Kingdom to carry out the national coordinator to combat oil pollution to develop a system for immediate response and coordination to protect the marine environment and coastal Arabia the impact of pollution to take full advantage of the possibilities available, regionally and internationally and included mobilization and coordination of all potential available, including equipment, manpower and expertise needed to address cases of pollution, and to fulfill the obligations of the kingdom, which included regional and international conventions to protect the marine environment and any other agreements related to the Kingdom is a party, and in this sense the presidency in 1993 established a unit attaches great importance to combating marine pollution in the emergency under the name of the emergency response management and control of oil pollution under the direction and supervision of the National Centre of Meteorology and Environment, and since then, and the administration work to combat marine pollution by oil and other harmful substances
